A Lovely Gesture in Honour of a Unique Australian Lady

One of the many the pregnant mothers being cared for at MWH who were due this month, Priscilla, joined us from Ubagubi, a remote village, and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl weighing 3.5kg.

Priscilla had expressed how grateful she felt that all of the pregnant mothers at the Maternal Waiting Home received so many gifts from Australia. She feels especially blessed by Susan (Sue), Sue's daughter-in-law Kia, and the the other lovely ladies involved with the Creating for Charity group, who have sent donations of baby items such as knitted caps, socks, hand gloves, and baby blankets. All of those involved in the group have become a channel of blessing to the mothers at MWH.

As an expression of her gratitude, Pricilla decided to honour Susan for her incredible generosity and has chosen her as the name sake for her little girl, naming her baby, Susan.

Pricilla shared, "I really wanted to show my appreciation, but since Susan is far from all of us here and I can not give her or the other ladies a gift such as a bilum* or hug them, I have decided to name my precious daughter after her, to honour the blessing that she is to all of us here at the Maternal Waiting Home."

Susan is an inspirational and role model to all rural mothers in Eastern Highlands Province and PNG as whole and Sue, Kia, and other ladies from the Creating for Charity group will always have a very special place in all of our hearts.

*A bilum is a traditional string bag, but in Papua New Guinea a bilum is so much more than its function. A bilum is a cultural artefact embedded with value and meaning and bilum weaving is a cultural practice which binds and interconnects generations of women and clans.
